Corporate Presentation RIU Hotets
RIU Hotels & Resorts Proudly Committed
Hotels with a responsible conscience RIU hotels the world over aim to integrate with the communities where they operate and work to contribute to the improvement and well-being of its social and environmental surroundings. These are a few examples:
Alliances In recent years, the company has joined various organisations with the aim of making the tourism sector more respectful of people and the environment. • IUF-UITA: In 2021, RIU signed an agreement to combat sexual exploitation in its hotels and strengthen its commitment to human rights and equality. • The ECPAT Code: Since 2012, RIU Hotels has been part of the ECPAT network to protect children and teenagers from sexual exploitation in the tourism industry. • UNWTO’s Global Code of Ethics for Tourism: In 2016, RIU made a commitment to the World Tourism Organisation to achieve responsible and sustainable tourism.
Charitable accommodation: RIU offers charitable accommodation in all of its hotels for allied NGOs so they can work in the destinations where their help is needed most. “Circular” hotels RIU is committed to the circular economy with worksite waste recycling projects such as the one carried out in the Riu Concordia, which obtained the first “minimum waste” certification from MAC insular. RIU also has two circular projects to create a sustainable
tourism community, reduce waste and provide locally-sourced products at its hotels in Playa de Palma and Tenerife. The latter initiative boasts the 2021 Canary Islands Sustainable Economy Award from Fundación La Caja de Canarias and CaixaBank. This was achieved through partnership with other hotel chains, transforming organic waste into compost that is subsequently provided to local farming co-ops. The results are ingredients grown with said compost and offered to guests at the buffet.
