Histoire du Maroc Depuis l’Antiquité, plusieurs civilisations ont influencé le Maroc. Chacune a marqué le territoire d’une empreinte indélébile. C’est l’origine d’un patrimoine historique incomparable. Les différentes civilisations qui se sont succédé au Maroc ont chacune influencé notre identité. Ce qui explique sans doute la tolérance et l’ouverture d’esprit des Marocains. Ici, pas de choc des cultures, plutôt une rencontre et un partage. La légende raconte que c’est Hercule qui créa le Maroc en ouvrant le détroit de Gibraltar. Quoi qu’il en soit, la présence de l’homme y est attestée depuis au moins 300 000 ans. Peuplé à l’origine par les Berbères, le pays s’ouvre à l’influence des Phéniciens et des Carthaginois, puis se soumet jusqu’au Ve siècle aux Romains. Ils laisseront des traces, comme le site de Volubilis, qui témoignent de la prospérité liée aux productions agricoles. Dès 647, débutent la conquête arabe et l’islamisation. Idriss Ier, contestant le pouvoir de Bagdad, fonde en 788 à Volubilis le royaume idrisside. Suivent les dynasties almoravides, conquérants berbères du Sud, puis les Almohades qui étendent leur pouvoir en Espagne musulmane et, enfin les Mérinides, Berbères des hauts plateaux. La tolérance religieuse, l’héritage andalou et la prospérité de ces dynasties engendrent les trésors qui font aujourd’hui la richesse culturelle, artistique et architecturale du pays. Dès le XVIe siècle, les empires de souche arabe, saadiens puis alaouites, ont assuré l’unité et l’indépendance du Maroc. Aujourd’hui, le Maroc est dirigé par Sa Majesté le Roi Mohammed VI, intronisé le 30 juillet 1999 ; il est le 23e roi de la dynastie alaouite dont le pouvoir a débuté au milieu du XVIIe siècle. La monarchie assure l’unité du pays, et le règne de Mohammed VI est marqué par la volonté d’édifier un État démocratique, solidaire et moderne, respectueux de ses traditions et de son identité.

History of Morocco Morocco has been influenced by several civilizations since Antiquity. Each has marked the land with an indelible imprint. This has produced an incomparable historical heritage. Originally inhabited by Berbers, the country opened up to Phoenician and Carthaginian influences, before submitting until the 5th century to the Romans. They would leave relics, such as the site at Volubilis, testifying to the prosperity which came fromagricultural production. From647, the Arab and Islamic conquest began. In 788, Idriss I, contesting the power of Baghdad, founded the Idrisid kingdom in Volubilis. There followed the Almoravid dynasties, the Berber conquerors of the south, then the Almohads whose power extended intoMuslimSpain, and finally the Merinids, Berbers from the high plateaus. Religious tolerance, Andalusian heritage, and the prosperity of these dynasties created treasures which now constitute the cultural, artistic and architectural richness of the country. From the 16th century, the empires of Arabic, Saadian then Alaouite origin ensured the unity and independence of Morocco. Today, Morocco is ruled by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, crowned on July 30th, 1999; he is the 23rd king in the Alaouite dynasty which came to power at the beginning of the 17th century. Themonarchy ensures the unity of the country, and the reign of Mohammed VI is marked by a desire to build a unified andmodern democratic state, which respects its traditions and its identity.
