The National Art Gallery Museum of the Bahamas: This is an art gallery in Nassau, the capital city of the Bahamas. In September 2011 the Gallery announced Amanda Coulson as its new Director, along with four new appointments in its staff. John Cox joined the Gallery in January 2012 as Head Curator. The Gallery is located within the restaurant Villa Doyle, which dates back to 1860. It centers around Bahamian artists, but there are also other works of art, including landscapes by Winslow Homer. The collection includes ceramics, paintings, photographs, sculptures and textiles, mostly from the 20th century. The Public Library and Museum of Nassau: This is located in the city of Nassau, and is the largest library in the Bahamas. It is one of five libraries in the capital city. The building is situated in an old colonial prison block, which dates back to 1797, when it became the first building on the Parliament Plaza in Nassau. It is said that the building is based on the munitions dump in Williamsburg, Virginia.1 It became a library in 1873. The small prison cells that once held prisoners now contain old colonial documents, newspapers, books, paintings, Arawak artifacts, historical records, etc.
