PUNTA CANA - DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

EN If people had to locate the Garden of Eden on a worldmap, many would situate it in the Dominican Republic, just at the spot where the Atlantic meets the Caribbean Sea. In Punta Cana. It’s not lacking in reasons to deserve the title ‘earthly paradise’: over 50kmof coastline, beaches with fine white sand, crystal-clear waters, pleasant temperatures the whole year around, exuberant vegetation… It was in 1969 that a group of US investors bought land in this area belonging to the Province of Altagracia. Since then, and within a short time, Punta Cana has established itself and one of the world’s leading tourist destinations. One figure is enough to endorse this claim: Punta Cana International Airport (located 30km inland) receives over 2million tourists each year, making it the busiest airport in the whole of the Dominican Republic

Seit- demwurde Punta Cana in kurzer Zeit eines der Hauptreiseziele der Welt. Eine einzige Informa- tion reicht aus, umdiese Aussage zu bestätigen: der internationale Flughafen von Punta Cana (ca. 30 km landeinwärts) wird jährlich vonmehr als 2Millionen Touristen was ihn zummeistbereis- ten Flughafen der Dominikanischen Republik macht. Razones paramere- cer el título de ‘paraíso terrenal’ no le faltan: más 50 kmde costa, playas de fina y blanca arena, aguas cristalinas, clima suave a lo largo del año, una vegetación exuberante… Fue en 1969 cuando un grupo de inversores estadounidenses compró un terreno en aquella zona perteneciente a la provincia do- minicana de Altagracia. Desde entonces, y en poco tiempo, Punta Cana se consolidó como uno de los principales destinos turísticos del mundo. Solo un dato sirve para refrendar esta afirmación: el Aeropuerto Internacional de Punta Cana (situado a unos 30 kmhacia el interior) recibemás de 2millones de turistas cada año, lo que lo convierte en el demayor tráfico de toda la República Dominicana.
