EN Ildefonso Aguilar sports a long beard and has a resonant, though friendly, voice. He lives inside a volcano, or perhaps we should say that his home is part of the volcano named Tahiche. Everyone on the island knows Ilde- fonso, both theman and his paintings. Artistic heir to César Manrique, musicians like Brian Eno, WimMertens or Daniel Lanois have all stayed at his home. All because Ilde- fonso is behind the Lanzarote Visual Music Festival which, for over 15 years, has been held in the Cueva de los Verdes – probably the most spectacular music venue in the world. This lava tube was formed 5,000 years ago: its natural acoustics, together with the reflections of the water on the volcanic rock, make any concert a truly unique experience.

EN It’s easy to come across Ildefonso Aguilar, beard and all, out for a stroll on La Graciosa - a tiny inhabited island (the eighth in the Canary Islands archipelago) situated northeast of Lanzarote - where he has a small house. First you have to head for Orzola and catch the ferry: it leaves in themorning and returns in the evening.

Antes hay que llegar hasta Orzola y tomar el ferri que sale por lamañana y regresa por la tarde.
