A la playa y la selva sólo les separa una hora. Desde el templo Tamil hasta los sitios de peregrinación cristianos, apenas hay cinco minutos de camino. En la capital Port Louis, durante el día, reina el bullicio. En el museo se puede admirar el Mauricio azul, una rareza filatélica. Como recuerdo me compro un imán para la ne- vera de un ejemplar. Ya avanzada la tarde, desde mi terraza con vistas al mar en el Riu Le Morne, no me canso de contemplar la puesta de sol. Ahora entiendo qué es lo quería decir Mark Twain. ¡Mauricio es lo más parecido al paraíso! En verano 2016 abrió sus puertas el segundo hotel RIU en el océano índico, en Sri Lanka. Se trata del Hotel Riu Sri Lanka, en Ahungalla, al que tengo infinitas ganas de ir.

The island has a wide range of scenery, with the attractive peaks of the mountains, endless sugar cane fields and tea planta- tions. Beach and jungle are just one hour apart and it’s a five-minute walk from the Tamil temple to the Christian pilgrimage sites. By day, Port Louis is a bustling capital. In the museum, visitors can marvel at the blue Mauritius, a rare postage stamp. I bought a fridge magnet as a souvenir. However, when evening came, I never tired of contemplating the sunset from my terrace at Riu Le Morne, which looked out over the sea. Now I understand Mark Twain. Mauritius is as close as you can get to Paradise! RIU’s second hotel in the Indian Ocean opened its doors in Sri Lanka, in summer 2016. Located in Ahungalla, Riu Sri Lanka is now at the top of my wish list.

Riu Le Morne. Im Hauptrestaurant wird täglich eine große Auswahl angeboten. Für noch mehr Abwechslung sorgen diese drei Res- taurants: das elegante Kulinarium und im Riu Creole das indische Restaurant Bangalore, sowie das asiatische Kaori. Die Insel verfügt mit ihren bizarren Berg- gipfeln, den endlosen Zuckerrohrfeldern und den grünen Teeplantagen über eine abwechslungsreiche Landschaft. Vom Strand in den Regenwald zu gelangen dauert nur eine Stunde, vom Tamilen-Tempel bis zur christlichen Wallfahrtsstätte sind es keine fünf Minuten Weg. In der Hauptstadt Port Louis herrscht quirliges Leben. Im kleinen Museum ist mit der Blauen Mauritius eine postalische Rarität zu bestaunen. Als Andenken kaufe ich mir einen Kühlschrankmagneten mit der Blauen Mauritius. Danach sitze ich auf meiner Terrasse mit Meerblick im Riu Le Morne und kann mich am Sonnenuntergang nicht satt sehen. Jetzt verstehe ich, was Mark Twain gemeint hat. Mauritius kommt dem Paradies schon sehr nahe! Im Sommer 2016 hat das zweite RIU Hotel im Indischen Ozean erö net, und zwar auf Sri Lanka. Eine Insel, die ich ganz besonders lie- be! Ich bin schon sehr gespannt auf das neue Riu Sri Lanka in Ahungalla.
