EN The figure of the youngest of the Williams sisters has transcended the WTA (Women Tennis Association) courts, becoming a reference for many women and for the black community. But she is also an example of personal improvement. Raised in a poor, rough, neighborhood in Compton, California, Serena’s father educated his five daughters under strict religious values and a culture of hard work. At just 4 years old, Serena won her first tennis tournament and by the age of 10 her trophies numbered in the dozens. Venus and Serena’s talent with the tennis racket took off at the school run by Rick Macci. From there she entered the professional circuit, where Serena made her debut in 1995 at the age of 14, although she would have to wait a couple more years to achieve her first triumphs. Thus began an impressive career in which only the injuries she suffered in some seasons prevented her from being unbeatable.

Pero también en un ejemplo de superación personal. Criada en un humilde y conflictivo barrio de Compton, en California, el padre de Serena educó a sus cinco hijas bajo unos férreos valores religiosos y la cultura del esfuerzo. Con apenas 4 años, Serena consiguió su primer torneo de tenis y con 10 sus trofeos se contaban por decenas. El talento con la raqueta de Venus y Serena, acabó de explotar en la escuela del tenista profesional Rick Macci. De ahí al circuito profesional, donde Serena debutó cuando solo tenía 14 años, en 1995. Aunque tendría que esperar un par de años más para lograr sus primeros triunfos. Empezaba ahí una trayectoria impresionante, que solo las lesiones sufridas en algunas temporadas impidieron que fuera insuperable.

Aber sie ist auch ein Beispiel für persönliche Weiterentwicklung. Serena wuchs in einem bescheidenen und problembeladenen Viertel in Compton, Kalifornien, auf. Ihr Vater erzog seine fünf Töchter nach strengen religiösen Werten und einer Kultur der harten Arbeit.
