EN There aremany different lists of the best movies in history or themost popular songs ever, drawn up by critics and experts in the field. However, what makes something go to the top of the rankings? There are somany parameters to bear inmind and some of them are so subjective that, at the end of the day, it all comes down to amatter of taste. However, it is possible to statemore scien- tifically which country is the happiest in the world: Costa Rica. This is the conclusion of the New Economics Foundation, a UK organisa- tion that every two years conducts a report analysing the levels of happiness and life satisfaction in 151 countries. Costa Rica leads the ranking for the second time in a row. The Happy Planet Index focuses on issues such as ecology - Costa Rica is 99% powered by renewable energy -, how rich and diverse its plant and animal life is, and safety levels. Together, these attributes make this Central American country the planet’s happi- est country.

Doch noch niemand hat es bisher gewagt, zu sagen, welche nun die beste all dieser Listen ist. Es sind einfach zu viele Parameter zumessen – wovon einige sehr subjektiv sind –, sodass sich letztendlich alles auf eine Geschmacksfrage reduziert. Dennoch ist es möglich, zweifelsfrei festzustel- len, welches das glücklichste Land der Welt ist, nämlich Costa Rica. So lautet das Urteil der New Economics Foundation, einer britischen Organi- sation, die alle zwei Jahre einen Bericht erstellt, in demGlück und Zufriedenheit von 151 Ländern analysiert werden. Costa Rica ist demnach bereits zum zweitenMal auf demersten Platz gelandet. Der Happy-Planet- Index konzentriert sich dabei auf Aspekte wie Ökologie – 99 % des Strombedarfs werden über er- neuerbare Energien produziert –, die vielfältige und reichhaltige Flora und Fauna sowie die Sicherheit. Die Summe dieser Faktorenmacht das mittelame- rikanische Land zum glücklichsten des Planeten.

En cambio sí es posible afirmar con rotundi- dad cuál es el paísmás feliz del mundo: Cos- ta Rica. Es el veredicto de la NewEconomics Foundation, una organización británica que realiza cada dos años un informe que analiza la felicidad y la satisfacción de vida de 151 países. Costa Rica repite primer lugar por segunda vez consecutiva. El índice Happy Planet se centra en aspectos como la ecología —el 99% de la electricidad de este país se produce con energía sostenible—, la diversidad y riqueza de su fauna y flora y la seguridad que ofrece. Todo ello encarama al país centroamericano como el paísmás feliz del planeta.
