ES Durante décadas, los granjeros de Jamaica usaban embarcaciones hechas con bambú para transportar desde el interior de la isla sus productos a los mercados y puer- tos locales, en especial bananas. Aunque en otras zonas del lugar se pueden encontrar emociones fuertes practicando rafting, como en el río Martha Brae, es en Río Grande don- de se revive esta tradición. Sobre la madera se observa de la mejor forma posible el pai- saje rural del país tan alejado en lo estético de sus famosas playas. Solo son necesarios unos minutos de navegación, siempre comandado por un experto local, para adentrarse en las entrañas de la belleza natural de Jamaica y en los misterios de su selva tropical. El trayecto de este agradable paseo suele durar en torno a las tres horas, dependiendo del ritmo de la marea.

EN For decades, Jamaica’s farmers have used bamboo boats to transport their prod- ucts, most notably bananas, from the interior of the island to the local markets and ports. Although it’s possible to feel the adrenaline of water sports on other parts of the island (for example, rafting on the Martha Brae River), it’s Río Grande that is leading the way when it comes to reviving this tradition. The wooden vessels provide the best way to observe the country’s rural landscapes, a world away from the aesthetics of its famous beaches. Guided by the safe hands of a local expert, it takes just a few minutes to penetrate the hidden depths of Jamaica’s natural beauty and the mysteries of its tropi- cal jungle. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable experi- ence and the trip often takes around three hours, depending on the rhythm of the tide.

In anderen Gegenden der Insel, wie beispielswei- se auf dem Río Martha Brae, kann man beim Rafting Abenteuer erleben. Auf dem Río Grande hingegen lässt man die alte Tradition wieder aufleben. Die Landschaft des Hinterlandes, die eine so ganz andere Schönheit bietet als die berühmten Strände, kann man am besten vom Holzboot aus betrachten. Nach nur wenigen Minuten Fahrt - immer unter der Leitung eines einheimischen Führers - ist man bereits in das Innerste der Naturschönheit Jamaikas und zu den Geheimnissen des tropischen Dschungels vorgedrungen. Diese angenehme Fahrt dauert etwa drei Stunden, je nach Rhythmus der Gezeiten.
