ES Sri Lanka es la lágrima de India. Fue por su cercanía al país asiático y su peculiar forma por lo que se ganó este sobrenom- bre. Al suroeste, a las afueras de la ciudad portuaria de Galle, frente a la inmensidad del Índico, están las playas de Kathaluwa y Ahangama. En sus arenales puede contem- plarse una curiosa técnica de pesca. Los locales nadan hasta un poste de madera de cuatro metros de altura con un arpón en la mano. Se suben a él, aguantando en una barra vertical, y esperan a que lleguen los peces.

EN They say that Sri Lanka is the teardrop of India on account of its peculiar shape and proximity to the Asian country. Located on the south-west of the island, beyond the port city of Galle and facing out to the immensity of the Indian Ocean, are the beaches of Kathaluwa and Ahangama. Visitors can see a curious fishing technique on their sands. Locals swim out to a wooden post stand- ing about 4 metres high in the sea with a harpoon in their hands. They climb up onto the post and wait on a vertical bar for the fish to appear..

DE Sri Lanka wird auch die Träne Indiens genannt. Die Nähe zu dem asiatischen Land und die auffällige geographische Form brach- ten ihm diesen Namen ein. Im Südwesten, am Rande der Hafenstadt Galle liegen vor der Unermesslichkeit des Indischen Ozeans die Strände von Kathaluwa und Ahangama. Dort kann man eine ungewöhnliche Fischfang- technik beobachten. Mit einer Harpune in der Hand schwimmen die Einheimischen zu einem vier Meter hohen Holzpfahl hinaus. Sie klettern hoch und warten auf der senkrechten Stange auf die Fische.
