ES En Dublinesca , la novela de Enrique Vila-Matas, el protagonista viaja a Dublín tras un sueño premonitorio para buscar el sentido de la vida. No es necesario llegar tan lejos para darse cuenta de que la capital irlandesa es una ciudad fascinante y cautivadora, que combina tradición y modernidad con delicada elegancia. Su esencia es fácil de descubrir. Aflora en lugares como el Trinity College, la universidad más antigua del país, o en O’Connell Street, la gran arteria de la metrópolis y uno de los escenarios de las revueltas de principios del siglo XX. Cambiemos de tercio. ¿Quién no quiere respirar la historia de su castillo, que sirvió de asentamiento vikingo, o saborear una emblemática Guin- ness en la fábrica de cerveza negra más internacional? Y así, junto a otros referentes clásicos como la catedral de San Patricio, patrono de Irlanda, el día a día de Dublín amanece dinámico, apacible y claramente vanguardista. No en vano está considerada como una de las ciudades más amigables de Europa y cuenta con una zona financiera que siempre mira al futuro, donde relucen las sedes de colosos tecnológicos como Apple, Microsoft o Google. Y, para los menos urbanitas, también abundan las zonas verdes. St. Stephens Green es el parque más antiguo de Dublín y está situado en una de las zonas más comerciales de la ciudad. Ya en las afueras, una visita más que recomendable es Phoenix Park, que con sus 700 hectáreas es uno de los parques urbanos más grandes de Europa.

EN In ‘Dublinesque’, a novel by the Span- ish author Enrique Vila-Matas, the main character travels to Dublin after a premoni- tion in order to discover the meaning of his life. You don’t have to go quite that far to realise that the Irish capital is a fascinating and captivating place that blends tradition and modernity with a delicate elegance. It’s easy to discover its essence. It flourishes in places like Trinity College, the country’s oldest university, and O’Connell Street, the principal artery of the metropolis and the stage for the rebellions at the start of the 20th century. And, of course, who could resist breathing the history of the castle, once a Viking settlement, or even savour- ing the taste of the iconic Guinness stout at one of the world’s most famous breweries? Together with other classic landmarks like Saint Patrick’s Cathedral—named after the patron saint of Ireland—the day-to-day life of Dublin is dynamic, pleasant and always with one eye firmly on the future. There are good reasons why the city is widely regarded as one of Europe’s friendliest places and this is to say nothing of the modern financial district that is home to o ces of technology behemoths like Apple, Microsoft and Goog- le. There is also an abundance of green spaces for people looking for a moment of calm. Saint Stephen’s Green is Dublin’s old- est park, located in one of the city’s busiest commercial districts. On the outskirts of the city, there is also the highly-recommended Phoenix Park, whose 700 hectares make it one of the largest urban parks in Europe.

DE Es muss ja nicht gleich so weit kom- men wie bei der Hauptfigur aus Vila-Matas Roman „Dublinesk“, die sich in einem prophetischen Traum in Dublin wiederfindet, um dort den Sinn ihres Lebens zu suchen. Aber es stimmt natürlich, dass die irische Hauptstadt faszinierend und verführerisch ist und mit feiner Eleganz Tradition und Moderne miteinander verbindet. An Orten wie dem Trinity College, der ältesten Universität des Landes, oder der O‘Connell Street, der Hauptverkehrsader der Metropole und einem der Schauplätze der Aufstände Anfang des 20. Jahrhun- derts spürt man schnell, was diese Stadt ausmacht. Und wer möchte nicht gerne die geschichtsträchtige Luft des Schlosses schnuppern, an dessen Stelle sich ursprüng- lich eine Wikingersiedlung befand, oder in der weltberühmten Brauerei ein symbol- trächtiges Guinness trinken? So zeigt sich der Alltag in Dublin dynamisch, beschaulich und ganz klar avantgardistisch, umgeben von weiteren klassischen Wahrzeichen wie z.B. der St. Patrick‘s Cathedral, so benannt nach dem Schutzpatron des Landes. Nicht umsonst wird Dublin als eine der zuvorkom- mendsten Städte Europas bezeichnet, mit einem zukunftsorientierten Finanzviertel, in dem die Firmensitze technologischer Riesen wie Apple, Microsoft oder Google glänzen. Und für die Naturfreunde gibt es zahlreiche Grünflächen. St. Stephens Green ist der äl- teste Park Dublins. Er befindet sich in einem der größten Einkaufsviertel der Stadt. Am Stadtrand ist zudem ein Besuch des Phoenix Parks sehr zu empfehlen, der mit seinen 700 Hektar einer der größten innerstädtischen Parks Europas ist.
