Parque Nacional del Este El Parque Nacional del Este describe un espacio en forma trapezoidal con áreas terrestres y marinas, que incluye a la isla Catalinita y a la isla Saona, esta última único lugar habitado dentro de la reserva natural. Según la Ley no. 202-04 posee un área total de 796.40 km 2 (414.62 km 2 de área terrestre y 381.78 km 2 de área marina). Ocupa unos 305.06 km 2 de la provincia La Altagracia y unos 109.55 km 2 de la provincia La Romana. El Parque es un territorio muy poco modificado que resguarda una de las áreas protegidas más importantes del archipiélago caribeño. En su interior se representan tres zonas de vida: el bosque húmedo subtropical, el bosque seco subtropical y el bosque de transición entre los dos anteriores. Los bosques sobre roca ocupan una superficie de más del 80%, mientras los bosques de manglares cubren las zonas costeras pantanosas. Inside are three life zones: subtropical humid forest, subtropical dry forest and the forest of transition between the previous two. On rock forests occupy an area of more than 80%, while mangrove forests cover the marshy coastal areas.
