Y ya que estamos con los récords, Maldivas es el país más bajo del mundo. Solo el 1% de la superficie total del país está situada por encima del nivel del mar. El punto más alto se localiza en la isla de Villingili, a 5,1 m. Otra curiosidad relacionada con su fauna: en Maldivas habita el pez más grande del mundo, el tiburón ballena, aunque sus aguas albergan una enorme diversidad de especies y fondos coralinos.
