WORKING WITH AND FOR CHILDREN // ENGAGEMENT FÜR KINDER UNA APUESTA PORLOS NIÑOS

ES El Centro Joan Riu , ubicado en Girona, España viene mostrando desde 1991 su apoyo a las familias de niños que requieren una atención especial mediante la financiación de dos servicios diferenciados. El primero de ellos es el servicio de acogida residencial de carácter temporal que ofrece la Residencia Infantil Joan Riu. Allí se atiende a niños y niñas de entre 3 y 18 años con discapa- cidad intelectual severa y con necesidades de soporte o apoyo generalizado y problemas de salud y/o conducta (síndrome de Down/psico- sis infantil, retraso madurativo y trastorno del desarrollo, síndrome de Angelman, autismo...). La residencia infantil, que cuenta con un total de 24 plazas, acoge a estos menores que no pueden ser atendidos en centros de escolari- zación especial de su comarca, y que debido a la complejidad, viven en la residencia durante la semana. El objetivo, en cualquiera de los casos, es garantizar el bienestar físico, emo- cional y material de los niños. El segundo de los servicios financiados por la Fundación es el que proporciona la Escuela de Educación Especial Joan Riu . Los alumnos, en este caso, son niños y adolescentes de entre 3 y 18 años con algún tipo de discapacidad intelectual con necesidades de apoyo genera- lizado o extenso. Con su labor, la escuela trata de mejorar su calidad de vida, desarrollar el potencial de cada alumno y facilitar los sopor- tes necesarios a lo largo de todo el proceso de escolarización. Para ello cuenta con un equipo docente compuesto por maestros, educadores, logopedas, fisioterapeutas y psicopedago- gos que trabajan, entre otras disciplinas, en estimulación básica y sensorial, aprendizajes cognitivos y manipulativos, actividades con la PDI (pizarra digital interactiva), jardinería y horticultura, música, pintura, contacto con la naturaleza y con los animales, fiestas…

EN The Joan Riu Centre, located in Girona, Spain has been supporting the families of children requiring special attention since 1991, by funding two different services. The first of these is the temporary residential care service offered by the Joan Riu Chil- dren’s Home. This facility attends to children aged between 3 and 18 with severe mental disability, general support requirements and health and/or behavioural problems (Down syndrome/child psychosis, learning disabil- ity and developmental disorder, Angelman syndrome, autism and others ). The children’s home, which has a total of 24 places, cares for minors who cannot be attended at specialist schools in the area. It allows them to socialise with other people at the residence during the week. The goal, in all cases, is to guarantee the children’s physical, emotional and material wellbeing. The second service funded by the Foundation is that provided by the Joan Riu Special Edu- cation School. The students, in this case, are children and adolescents between 3 and 18 with some kind of mental disability requiring general or intensive support. The school’s goal is to improve quality of life, develop each student’s potential and give the neces- sary support throughout the school process. The staff is a teammade up of teachers, educators, speech therapists, physiothera- pists and educational psychologists who work, among other things, on basic and sensory stimulation, cognitive learning and handling activities with the IWB (interactive whiteboard), gardening and horticulture, music, painting, contact with nature and with animals, festivals…

DE Das Centro Joan Riu in Girona, Spanien unterstützt seit 1991 Familien von Kindern, die eine besondere Betreuung benötigen, mit der Finanzierung zweier Einrichtungen. Die erste dieser beiden tellen ist das Kinder- wohnheim für Kurzzeitbetreuung der Resi- dencia Infantil Joan Riu. Hier werden Jungen und Mädchen im Alter von 3 bis 18 Jahren mit starker geistiger Behinderung betreut, die allgemeine Unterstützung und Hilfe brauchen und gesundheitliche Probleme haben und/oder Verhaltensauffälligkeiten aufweisen (Down- syndrom/kindliche Psychosen, Reifeverzöge- rung und Entwicklungsstörung, Angelman- Syndrom, Autismus etc.). Das Kinderheimmit insgesamt 24 Plätzen küm- mert sich um diese Kinder und Jugendlichen, die in den spezialisierten Schuleinrichtungen ihrer Gegend keinen Platz finden und daher unter der Woche in dem Heimwohnen. Das Ziel besteht darin, das körperliche, emotionale und materielle Wohl der Kinder zu gewährleisten. Die zweite von der Stiftung Joan Riu finanzierte Einrichtung betreut die Schule für besondere Bildung Escuela de Educación Especial Joan Riu. Die Schüler sind in diesem Fall Kinder und Jugendliche im Alter von 3 bis 18 Jahren mit verschiedenen geistigen Behinderungen, die allgemeine oder umfangreiche Unterstützung benötigen. Mit ihrer Arbeit möchte die Schule deren Lebensqualität verbessern, das Potenzial der einzelnen Schüler fördern und während der gesamten Schulzeit die notwendige Unterstützung bieten. Hierzu verfügt sie über ein Team aus Lehrern, Erziehern, Logopäden, Physiotherapeuten und Psychopädagogen, die unter anderemmit basaler und sensorischer Stimulation, kognitivem und taktilem Lernen, interaktiven Whiteboards, Gartenpflege und -anbau, Musik, Malerei, Naturkontakt, mit Tieren, Festen etc. arbeiten.
