ES Jennifer Lopez lo ha tenido claro desde niña. Con 5 años comenzó a acudir a clases de baile y canto y con apenas 7 recorrió Nueva York en una ‘minigira’ artística con su escuela. Recién cumplidos los 15 fue cuando anunció a su familia su intención de convertirse en artista. Ni las advertencias de su madre, Guadalupe, sobre la escasa presencia de estrellas latinas en Hollywood mermó el ímpetu de la joven. Acababa de conseguir su primer papel en My Little Girl, una película de bajo presupuesto en la que apenas aparecía unos segundos, y sabía que había nacido para eso. Sus primeras participaciones en produc- ciones televisivas de dudosa calidad o en películas de escaso éxito comercial, como Money Train o Blood and Wine, no la desanimaron. «Se obtiene mucho más mirando el lado positivo de la vida», declaró recientemente en el programa American Idol en el que participaba como jurado. Y fue esa actitud por la que consiguió, en apenas cinco años desde su debut en Hollywood, convertirse en la primera actriz latina en ga- nar un millón de dólares y una nominación a los Globos de Oro.

EN Jennifer Lopez has thought this way ever since she was a young girl. She started dancing and singing classes when she was just five and by the age of seven was already travelling around New York on an artistic “mini tour” with her school. When she turned 15, she told her family that she wanted to be an artist. Her mind was made up and not even the warnings of her mother, Guadalupe, about the lack of Latina stars in Hollywood, could make her think twice. Her first role was in ‘My Little Girl’. Despite the film’s low budget and despite appearing for just a few seconds, she knew she had found her calling. She was undeterred by the limited success of many of the earliest television produc- tions and films in which she starred (which included ‘Money Train’ and ‘Blood and Wine’). “You get much more out of life if you look on the bright side,” she declared on the show American Idol, on which she was one of the judges. This positive attitude allowed her to become the first Latina actress to earn a million dollars and be nominated for the Golden Globe awards, just five years after her Hollywood début.

Auch ihre ersten Rollen in Fernsehproduktio- nen von zweifelhafter Qualität und in wenig erfolgreichen Filmen wie Money Train oder Blood and Wine entmutigten sie nicht. «Man kommt sehr viel weiter, wenn man die positive Seite im Leben sieht», verkündete sie kürzlich in der Sendung ‘American Idol’, an der sie als Jurorin teilnahm. Genau aus dieser Haltung heraus war es ihr gelungen, nur knapp 5 Jahre nach ihrem Hollywood-Debut als erste Schau- spielerin mit lateinamerikanischen Wurzeln eine Million Dollar zu verdienen und für den Golden Globe nominiert zu werden.
