A YEAR LATER / EIN JAHR SPÄTER UN AÑO DESPUÉS Relato

ES Jorge tiene diecisiete años y hace exactamente uno estaba en el mismo lugar al que ahora acaba de llegar junto a sus pa- dres: el ClubHotel Riu Papayas. Su memoria adolescente, selectiva y caprichosa, recuer- da perfectamente qué ocurrió allí mismo el verano pasado, en ese mismo lugar al que tantas ganas tenía de volver para saldar una deuda pendiente. Sus padres no le dejaron quedarse solo en casa, lo que le provocó un gran enfado. No quería vacaciones con ellos, solo quedarse con su chica, Estela, de la que se creía locamente enamorado. Recuerda con nitidez cómo tenía planeado en su cabeza mostrar su indiferencia por el mundo, dejando que pasara el tiempo sin hacer absolutamente nada. Sólo estar tumbado esperando que llegara el día de regreso. Pero nada más lejos de la realidad.

EN Jorge is 17 and has just arrived with his parents at ClubHotel Riu Papayas, the hotel where they stayed exactly one year ago. Selective and capricious, his teenager’s memory has a perfect recollection of the events of his holiday last year and he has been desperate to return ever since to make good his mistake. As he enters the hotel, he recalls the rage he had brought with him from Madrid the previous year. Much to his frustration, his parents had refused to let him stay home alone. He didn’t want to go on holiday with them, he just wanted to be with his girlfriend, Estela, whom he was sure was the love of his life. He clearly remembers how he arrived intent on demonstrating his indi erence to the world, letting the time pass and doing abso- lutely nothing, just lying there waiting for the last day to come so he could go home. But events took a rather di erent turn.

DE Jorge ist siebzehn Jahre alt. Vor genau einem Jahr war er schon einmal an demsel- ben Ort, an dem er gerade mit seinen Eltern angekommen ist: im ClubHotel Riu Papayas. Dank seines jugendlichen, selektiven und launenhaften Erinnerungsvermögens weiß er noch genau, was hier letzten Sommer geschah, an diesem Ort, an den er unbed- ingt zurückkehren wollte, um eine o ene Schuld zu begleichen. Er war damals sehr verärgert, weil seine Eltern ihn nicht alleine zu Hause ließen. Er hatte nicht mit ihnen in die Ferien fahren wollen, er wollte nur bei seiner Freundin bleiben, bei Estela, in die er bis über beide Ohren verliebt zu sein glaubte. Er erinnert sich ganz deutlich, wie er vorge- habt hatte, sich der Welt gegenüber gleich- gültig zu zeigen und die Zeit verstreichen zu lassen, ohne auch nur das Geringste zu tun. Nur rumzuliegen und zu warten, dass der Tag der Abreise käme. Doch dann kam alles anders.
