A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR YOUNG DOMINICANS EINE VIELVERSPRECHENDE ZUKUNFT FÜR JUNGE DOMINIKANER LOS JÓVENES DOMINICANOS UN FUTURO PROMETEDOR PARA

ES Un grupo de jóvenes dominicanos con escasos recursos económicos ven ahora su futuro laboral con más optimismo. Su paso por el proyecto Chance lo ha hecho posible. Pro- movida por RIU Hotels & Resorts junto a otras cuatro cadenas hoteleras mallorquinas*, la iniciativa pretende fomentar la empleabilidad de los jóvenes en el mercado de trabajo local. Para ello, el proyecto Chance permite a estos jóvenes, procedentes de Bávaro y Verón, asis- tir, de manera gratuita, a un curso de hostelería que, gracias a la colaboración del Instituto Nacional Técnico Profesional, se imparte en el Politécnico Ann and Tedkheel. En total, dos meses durante los cuales los alumnos se forman en materias genéricas como matemáticas, castellano, inglés, huma- nidades, y clases especializadas en turismo. Además, también participan en clases prácti- cas y teóricas sobre restauración. Una vez finalizada esta fase, los jóvenes se dividen en grupos. Cada uno de estos realiza prácticas en los departamentos de bar, restau- rante y cocina de cinco de los hoteles que las cadenas disponen en Bávaro. Una vez terminado el curso, los alumnos aprobados tendrán la oportunidad (la “chance”, como dicen los dominicanos, de ahí el nombre de la iniciativa) de consolidar su futuro profe- sional en su propio país. * Iberostar, Grupo Piñero, Grupo Batle y Barceló Hotels & Resorts son las otras cuatro cadenas participantes. EN A group of young people from the Dominican Republic are now more optimistic than ever about their future careers and it’s all thanks to the Chance project. Promoted by RIU Hotels & Resorts, in partnership with another four chains in Majorca,* the initiative aims to improve the employability of young people in the local labour market. The Chance programme gives young people from Bávaro and Verón the opportunity to attend a hospitality course for free at the Ann and Tedkheel Polytechnical college, with support from the country’s National Technical Professional Institute. The two-month course schools participants in general areas, such as mathematics, Spanish, English and the humanities, with specialist classes for tourism. They also take part in practical and theoretical classes on renova- tion. When they have completed their classes, the students are divided into groups for a work experience programme in the bars, restau- rants and kitchens of five of the chains’ hotels in Bávaro. At the end of the course, those who pass will have the opportunity (or “chance,” a word from the local slang from which the initiative takes its name) to consolidate their career in their own country.

DE Eine Reihe dominikanischer Jugendlicher aus armen Verhältnissen blickt nun optimisti- scher auf ihre berufliche Zukunft. Möglich ge- macht hat dies ihre Teilnahme am Projekt Chan- ce. Mit der Initiative von RIU Hotels & Resorts und vier weiteren mallorquinischen Hotelketten* soll die Vermittelbarkeit der Jugendlichen auf dem lokalen Arbeitsmarkt gefördert werden. Um dies zu erreichen, ermöglicht das Projekt Chance den Jugendlichen aus Bávaro und Verón die kostenlose Teilnahme an einem Kurs für das Gast- und Hotelgewerbe, der dank der Beteiligung des dominikanischen Nationalen Instituts für berufliche Bildung am Polytechnikum Ann and Tedkheel stattfindet. Insgesamt bekommen die Schüler zwei Monate lang Unterricht in allgemeinen Fächern wie Mathematik, Spanisch, Englisch und Geistes- wissenschaften sowie speziellen Unterricht in Tourismus. Zusätzlich nehmen sie an Theorie- und Praxiskursen zum Restaurantbetrieb teil. Am Ende der Ausbildung werden die jungen Leute in zwei Gruppen unterteilt. Jede Gruppe absolviert Praktika in den Bereichen Bar, Restaurant und Küche in fünf Hotels der Ketten in Bávaro. Nach erfolgreichem Bestehen des Kurses haben die Schüler die Möglichkeit (die "Chance" wie die Dominikaner sagen, daher der Name der Initiative), ihre berufliche Zukunft im eigenen Land zu sichern. * Iberostar, Grupo Piñero, Grupo Batle y Barceló Hotels & Resorts sind die anderen vier teilnehmenden Hotelketten.
