ES En 2007, Felix Finkbeiner propuso una idea: que en cada país del mundo los niños plantaran un millón de árboles para compen- sar las emisiones de CO2 (se calcula que cada árbol remueve de la atmósfera unos 10 kg de CO2 al año). Lo más curioso de la iniciativa de Felix es que él, su propulsor, apenas tenía 9 años… Su corta edad no impidió (más bien, favore- ció) que el expresidente del Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente (PNUMA), Klaus Töpfer, se convirtiera en su principal benefactor. Tras el primer árbol plantado por Felix arrancaba Plant-for-the- Planet, un movimiento que en poco tiempo se convertiría en global.

EN In 2007, Felix Finkbeiner had an idea: in every country in the world, children would plant a million trees to compensate for our CO2 emissions (one tree is estimated to remove around 10 kg of CO2 from the atmos- phere a year). The strangest thing about this initiative was that Felix, the person behind it, was only nine years old. However, far from being a drawback, his young age helped his idea prosper to the extent that the former President of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), Klaus Töpfer, became his main benefactor. After Felix had planted the first tree marking the launch of Plant-for-the-Planet, the move- ment quickly became global.

DE 2007 hatte Felix Finkbeiner eine Idee: In jedem Land der Welt sollten Kinder eine Million Bäume pflanzen, um die CO2-Emissionen auszugleichen (man rechnet, dass jeder Baum etwa 10 kg CO2 pro Jahr aus der Atmosphäre aufnimmt). Das Besondere an Felix‘ Vorschlag war, dass er selbst gerade mal neun Jahre alt war... Trotz Felix’ jungen Alters (oder gerade deswe- gen) wurde Klaus Töpfer, ehemaliger Präsident des Umweltprogramms der Vereinten Nationen (UNEP) und Ex-Bundesumweltminister, zu seinem wichtigsten Unterstützer. Nachdem Felix den ersten Baum gepflanzt hatte, startete Plant-for-the-Planet durch und wurde innerhalb kurzer Zeit zu einer weltweiten Bewegung.
