Thanks to its wide range of shows, museums, events, theater, etc. Its cultural diversity within its own population facilitates the variety of offer for all the public and interests. Numerous American cultural movements were born in the city, such as the Harlem Renaissance, which provoked the incursion of Afromeric literature in the country. New York was the epicenter of jazz in the 40's, abstract expressionism in the 50's and Hip Hop culture in the 70's. Also the rise of punk and hardcore culture in the 70's and 80's lived in the city. Bands like The Strokes, Scissor Sisters and The Bravery have been among the most prominent on the international scene emerging in New York.

In the 19th century important industrial people built a large network of cultural institutions, including the famous Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. On the other hand, the development of electric lighting contributed to the production of theatrical productions and with it the theaters and the great functions in the streets of Broadway.
