ES RIU Hotels continúa el camino hacia un modelo de gestión responsable con el fin de atenuar los efectos del cambio climático y desarrollar una conciencia sostenible en aquellas personas o elementos en los que influye su actividad. Por ello, a la hora de adquirir un producto que se usará o consumirá en cualquier hotel RIU, el departamento de Compras de la compañía considera los aspectos ambientales y sociales que afectan al mismo durante todo su ciclo de vida: de dónde viene y en qué condiciones se ha elaborado, su transporte, utilización y durabilidad; y por supuesto su destino final, su gestión como residuo y el impacto que tendrá en el medio ambiente. Fiel a su política de sostenibilidad, en el último año se han incorporado las pajitas compostables en los hoteles RIU en Europa y África, y pronto se encontrarán también en el continente americano. EN RIU Hotels continues to make progress toward a model of responsible management to combat the effects of climate change and raise awareness about sustainability among the stakeholders in our business. Procurement is one aspect of these efforts. In sourcing the products that will be used or consumed at RIU hotels, the company’s purchasing department considers all the environmental and social aspects of the full product life cycle. These include sourcing, transport, usage and durability, all the way through to the final destination, paying specific attention to waste management and environmental impact. Highlights of our sustainability policy over the last year include the roll-out of compostable straws throughout RIU hotels in Europe and Africa. This will soon be followed by our properties in the Americas. We have also introduced Rainforest Alliance Certified™ teas and coffee, with our annual consumption of 120 tonnes of coffee now sourced from

DE RIU Hotels geht einen weiteren Schritt auf demWeg zu einem verantwortungsbewussten Geschäftsmodell, um so die Auswirkungen des Klimawandels zu mildern und bei jenen Akteuren, auf die seine Handlungen Einfluss haben, ein Bewusstsein für Nachhaltigkeit zu bewirken. Wenn es darum geht, ein Produkt zu beschaffen, das in allen RIU Hotels genutzt oder konsumiert wird, berücksichtigt der Einkauf des Unternehmens daher sowohl Umwelt- als auch soziale Aspekte, die den Artikel betreffen: woher er kommt und unter welchen Bedingungen er produziert wurde, den Transport, die Nutzung und Haltbarkeit; und natürlich auch wo er schließlich landet: die Handhabung des Abfalls und den Einfluss, den dies auf die Umwelt haben wird. In den RIU Hotels in Europa und Afrika wurden getreu dieser Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie im letzten Jahr kompostierbare Strohhalme eingeführt und bald wird man diese auch auf dem amerikanischen Kontinent finden.
