Los esfuerzos de organizaciones como Bios.cv son esenciales para su conservación. En este archipiélago, la asociación cuenta con un equipo internacional de estudio cuyo tra- bajo depende, en buena medida, de los recursos proporcionados por compañías compro- metidas con el medioambiente como RIU Hotels & Resorts. La cadena hotelera colabora con Bios.cv en las campañas de educación ambiental, sensibilización y divulgación, tanto con la población local como con los turistas. Muchas de estas campañas cuentan también con el apoyo de la empresa ecoturística Naturalia que permite que se realicen las tomas de datos durante sus excursiones de whale-watching. En los últimos cinco años se han realizado importantes avances en el conocimiento de la ballena jorobada en la zona, población que por cierto, se alimenta principalmente en aguas de Noruega e Islandia. Uno de hallazgos más sorprendentes se produjo en 2014 cuando fue confirmado que el individuo NA 4756, un macho fotografiado por primera vez en Boa Vista en 2009, y posteriormente en 2011, 2013 y 2014, también había sido observado en la isla Guadalupe en 2012, poniendo de manifiesto que ocasio- nalmente algunas ballenas pueden alternar entre Cabo Verde y el Caribe Oriental como zona de reproducción.

During the last five years, knowledge of humpbacks in the area, a population that mainly feeds in the waters of Norway and Iceland, has increased significantly.
