ES Como periodista de viajes se conocen muchos destinos interesantes, pero cada uno de nosotros tiene su favorito. En mi caso, siempre ha sido Punta Cana. En 1492 Colón descubrió esta maravillosa isla caribeña y se convirtió en su primer turista. EN Travel writers are lucky to be able to visit many interesting destinations, but we all have our favourite. For me, it’s always been Punta Cana. When Columbus first dis- covered this marvellous Caribbean island in 1492, he became its first tourist. Today, over 10 million people throughout the world flock to its beaches, renowned for their fine sands and turquoise waters. The Riu’s discovery of the beauty of Punta Cana led to the decision to open its first hotel in America, Riu Taino, in 1991. It was to prove visionary: the chain’s first interna- tional hotel is now one of four in Punta Cana. My personal favourite is Riu Palace Macao, an all-inclusive, five-star, adults- only hotel in Arena Gorda, home to one of the most beautiful beaches in the Domini- can Republic. From the personal welcome that awaits guests when they go for their evening meal and the slow-cooking breakfasts in the morning through to the elegant Cuban lobby bar and the outstanding food served at the Krystal restaurant on the Atlantic coast, it’s a hotel that feels like somewhere

DE Als Reisejournalist lernt man ja viele inter- essante Gegenden kennen, aber natürlich gibt‘s Lieblingsziele. Für mich war und ist das z. B. Punta Cana in der Dominikanischen Republik. 1492 hatte Christoph Kolumbus die schöne Karibikin- sel entdeckt und war so quasi der erste Tourist. Heute machen hier jährlich über 10 Millionen Menschen aus aller Welt Urlaub unter Palmen an feinen Sandstränden am türkisblauen Meer. Die mallorquinische Familie Riu hatte schon bald die Schönheiten der Nordküste dieser Insel zwi- schen Atlantik und Karibik erkannt und 1991 hier das Riu Taino erö net. Eine zukunftsweisende Entscheidung. Dem ersten internationalen Hotel der Ferienhotelkette folgten allein in Punta Cana inzwischen vier weitere Urlaubsdomizile. Mein Favorit ist das Riu Palace Macao, ein 5-Sterne-All Inclusive-Adult’s Only-Hotel, welches sich in Are- na Gorda, einem der schönsten dominikanischen Strandabschnitte, befindet. Ob bei der persönlichen Begrüßung zum abend- lichen Dinner, beim Show-Cooking bereits am Morgen, in der stylischen Lobby-Bar „Cubano“ oder beim leckeren a-la carte Abendessen in mei- nem Lieblings Fusion-Restaurant „Krystal“ direkt am Atlantik – überall kann man den bewährten
